SHORT FILM FOR
PLAY Airlines & Mito Digital
COMMERCIAL FOR PLAY AIRLINES, ICELAND'S NEWEST LOW-COST CARRIER,
SHOWCASING THEIR NEW INTERNET BOOKING ENGINE IN A WEIRDLY FUNNY AD
Make it pop.
That was the client's only wish. Having a new booking engine (which actually works in real life as well) is a big deal in aviation, so no wonder PLAY Airlines and their developer agency, Mito Digital wanted to share the news to as many people as possible. They asked me to come up with a film idea with outstanding visuality and out-of-the-box solutions. So instead of focusing dry statements and classic case study elements, I concentrated on storytelling.
As you already know now, I'm in love with Iceland, so it was a no brainer to choose the island as our shooting location. This way, I could take full advantage of it by filming outside. I wanted to shoot in different locations and with varied weather, so the film could truly raise awareness and keep viewers engaged.
Because we didn't have the luxury of a big crew, multiple weeks to shoot and talented actors, I needed to put my characters in weirdly funny situations in order to compensate, so they didn’t really have to act and to establish a unique visuality that could go viral.
And last but not least, I wanted to feature the client and the agency in the commercial as well. Both parties could have equal importance so they got to act and told their parts of the story. Also, it was more personal this way.
It's always fun when I can mix & match my two professions in one project. I started to work as the creative director and ended the project as the film director and DOP.
