WHAT CATCHES THE EYE - POMPEII

WHAT CATCHES THE EYE
  -  POMPEII  -

Visiting Pompeii is like traveling back in time.
It's impossible not to be impressed to think that the ancient Roman city was buried in ashes in 79 AD.
What we now see is a portion brought to light.
Much of the city remains buried.

Strolling through the cobbled streets and seeing the marks left by the heavy wooden carts gives us
a sense of humanity when thinking about the flow of people from the region and from other
parts of the Mediterranean
who passed through it daily, busy with the most diverse interests,
including, commerce and leisure,
equally experienced in today's world.

We can perceive their habits and aesthetic taste when entering the ruins of the houses and
contemplating the interiors:
the vestiges of gardens and paintings
that should have enchanted
the residents of centuries ago.

And finally, seeing Vesuvius from a distance is unsettling, given the constant threat that
the past could repeat itself.
