Al Kurka'a wal Hamam (The Turtle and the Pigeons)
My dad used to tell me this story since I was young and it used to make me laugh a lot so I decided to draw it!
He heard it from his grandmother and the people around the village he was born in, Aboud village in Palestine.
The Turtle and the Pigeons story is about a very gossipy and talkative turtle that is sad because she eagerly wants to fly and see the world. Two pigeons tried to help her by letting her bite on an olive tree branch so they would fly her around Palestine. One thing they asked her was to not open her mouth because if she did, she would fall down and break. They warned her and she agreed that she wouldn't talk.
She bit on the tree branch and they all flew around to make her happy. All while flying, people around the village noticed that a turtle is flying! They all looked at her and were amazed! some even pointed at her and some laughed at her! The turtle got really angry and she couldn't hold her mouth any longer and shouted! Saying a sentence in Arabic (equivalent to english: May God pop your eyes!) and then of course she fell down and broke because she couldn't keep her mouth shut as agreed.
This story tells us to mind our own business and that gossip could end up with bad consequences in the end. Characters, settings, dialogue, Arabic type, are all done by me.
