Friendly Fires CD Cover
This is not the real Friendly Fires CD Cover it is a sample redesign that I created as my first image as type project. I used only physical objects to communicate the artist, album title, and theme.
The album is very much about the stages of a romantic relationship, from beginning to end. For materials I decided to use matches to create a heart, which is a widely accepted symbol for love and romance. The pink and red tones of the match heads worked very well to simulate the traditional symbol, while the match sticks created the tension that brings the romance back to reality. The band name/album title is created with burnt matches to distinguish it from the heart, reinforce the word fires in the band name, and to push the idea that the story told through this music isn't completely happy or unrealistic. As a finishing touch I used a strike pad to ground all of the pieces together. The grittiness of the piece says this album is about love in real life.
