U2 – The Greatest Years 1980 – 2013 Mock-Up

Why U2?
As one of my favourite bands, U2 were originally formed in 1976, but it was not until 1980 that they released their first studio album, “Boy”, which is the reason why I chose this date to begin the compilation from. U2 are an Irish band consisting of Bono (Vocals, Guitar, Harmonica), The Edge (Guitar, Keyboards, Backing Vocals), Adam Clayton (Bass) and Larry Mullen, Jr. (Drums, Percussion). The band is the biggest selling alternative rock act of all time, having sold over 140 million albums worldwide as of 2008 (the date of their last album, No Line In The Horizon).
Inside Panels
When designing the inside panels I wanted to include a “Thank You” section [Far Left] that looks as though it was written from Bono himself. This is a good way of celebrating their history and thanking the fans for their support at the same time.

I chose Red and White for the background colours of the CD’s as I feel they contrast well against the monochrome background image of the band live in concert. A simple but elegant Black font, DaunPenh, was used to extenuate the “U” and “2? on each disc respectively.
Back Panels
The main theme for this Compilation was Leonardo Da Vinci. This is because it gives the feeling of a very well known artist (Da Vinci/U2) as well as some very famous pieces of work (Mona Lisa/Beautiful Day). Again following the monochrome look of the inside, the background is a white stone finish suggesting that the Da Vinci pieces are painted onto the walls of the cover.

Each panel consists of a Discography 1980-2013 [Far Left], Track-list [Middle] and the Main CD Cover [Right]. The main panel includes my new U2 logo used with Colour Burn properties to make it look a part of the so called wall.
Booklet
The cover consists of all of U2′s previously released studio albums, making up a chronological collage of their work. It also includes my new design for a U2 logo [See Below for more details] which is seen throughout the project.

The inside of the booklet shows the front cover of “All That You Can’t Leave Behind (2000)” paralleled with a mock-up of an “Elevation Tour” Poster.
Custom Logo
The idea behind the logo was to create a simple yet graceful design that would fit U2 and the celebration of their history. I joined both the characters’ at the top right point of the “U” and the top left of the “2?. This creates a continual curvature that flows from left to right of the logo.
