Bat Winged Pants
I started out with an image of these pants I found on twitter and wanted to see if I could recreate or make my own version. The following is a concept idea with a sketch of a pattern.
I took large pieces of paper and drew both versions of the bat wing patterns. Then I took one pair of jeans and traced the pattern in a black sharpie before cutting out the wings. I made two sets of the large wings and two sets of the smaller wings. I sewed the top and bottom layers together and then proceeded to sew the wings to the pants. The larger wings stem from the bottom of the belt loops in the back and the smaller wings from the side seam lines. I also sewed snap rivets to the top of the large wings and just below the corner of my pockets so I can snap in the large wings.
I wanted to make these pants because my last project I hand sewed an outfit so I felt it fitting to try to make a project with a sewing machine. That did not go as planned and the sewing machine kept malfunctioning. I also tried to used glue to hold the wings together and that certainly didn't work. Therefore I ended up having to hand sew the wings again. Over all I am very happy with the result and really love that these pants add to the spooky alt wardrobe for the halloween season.
the wings snapped with the rivets so they rest underneath the pockets
