/ Play
For this book - which is about play as an attitude to life - I photographed the Lego structures of my five-year-old son. They marked the beginning of my personal search for play.

To me, play means following joy, curiosity, my intuition. It's about the power of imagination, experiment, about learning and adjusting while doing. Trusting the process. I had forgotten how to do this. My son's advice: just begin, it always turns into something.
My second book is about how I don’t need to reach in order to create. Everything is already there, right in front of me. All I need to do is see it.
In my work I'm always searching for beauty. As it comforts, gives hope, inspires.
I find it in shapes, compositions and colors; these are my tools. Often ‘less is more’ applies: by leaving out, focusing, it is possible to show the purest and most beautiful version of something.

For me, beauty goes hand in hand with realness. Only when realness (an underlying story, an emotion, a little edge) filters through, I am touched.

Being a perfectionist, I can really get in the way of myself during the creative process. This has become an important theme in my work. I have come to learn that instead of focusing on some thought-up end result, I can also act on my intuition and follow my curiosity and joy more. It seems to me that life is really just asking me to make a start and keep moving. Eyes, heart open. To see where it will take me, trusting that something will always come out of it.
