What is a Smart City?

Em momentos especiais e delicados nos quais, para além das alterações climáticas e da escassez de recursos que geram grandes preocupações, cerca de metade da população mundial vive em ambientes urbanos, um dos grandes temas que marca a atualidade é o das Cidades Inteligentes ou, em inglês, as Smart Cities.

As cidades tornaram-se num sinónimo de acréscimo de oportunidades e sucesso e é,

por isso, necessário, e urgente, entender-se o porquê e de que forma é que as mesmas podem, não só, ser mais inteligentes como, também, eficientes, ecológicas e inclusivas ao atender à qualidade de vida dos seus cidadãos.

Estas ditas Cidades Inteligentes pretendem refletir e deter um papel proativo sobre aquilo que diz respeito ao presente e ao futuro, e estão a traçar o seu caminho sendo o seu impacto já notório. Porém, a realidade, é que a desinformação e o desconhecimento são, ainda, palavras de ordem no que toca a esta temática. É caraterizado, por muitos, como um conceito abstrato e distante. Afinal, o que é uma Cidade Inteligente? O que a define como tal? E o que a diferencia de outra qualquer?

O futuro das cidades é dito ser inteligente e, por esse mesmo motivo, com intuito exploratório e informativo, este projeto procura reunir conteúdos, interativos e dinâmicos, sobre estas cidades, estimulando ao seu conhecimento.

In specials and delicates moments in which, in addition to climate change and the scarcity of resources that generate a lot of concerns, about half of the world's population lives in urban environments, one of the great themes that mark the present is Smart Cities.

Cities have become a synonym for increasing opportunities and success, and therefore, it is necessary and urgent to understand why and how they can be not only smarter but also more efficient, ecological, and inclusive in meeting the quality of life of their citizens.

These so-called Smart Cities intend to reflect and play a proactive role in what concerns the present and the future, they are charting their way, and their impact is already well notorious. However, the reality is that disinformation and ignorance are still watchwords about this theme. It is characterized by many as an abstract and distant concept. After all, what is a Smart City? What defines it as such? And what sets it apart from any other?

The future of cities is said to be smart and, for that exact reason, with an exploratory and informative purpose, this project seeks to bring together interactive and dynamic content about these cities, stimulating their knowledge.
