THE DODO'S EPITAPH [tebo 2014]
lest we forget:
the dodo shall be roused.
they had her slain and broken;
and sacrificed to gods of poaching.
had she had to fight or fly,
above mauritian skies she'd glide.
she'd join the wailing fisher eagle;
or wage odd wars with the fiery falcon.
may carnivores who scan this stone,
heed this fleeting second of silence.
may they briefly choke on stolen bones;
lest they curse the dodo's grave.
