Midwestern Magazine
Complete redesign of Midwestern Seminary's biannual promotional magazine

When redefining what Midwestern Magazine should be, we bent all of our efforts toward creating a helpful resource for those serving in the church. This meant publishing relevant content, engaging design, and focusing on the readers' needs.

-
-

The former masthead was replaced with a custom script to more clearly separate itself from Midwestern Seminary's self-promotional pieces. This allows the magazine to feel more objective, approachable, and all-around Midwestern.

The typography system is composed of Avenir, Calluna, and Alternate Gothic.

-
-

The layouts needed to be clean and structured to handle large amounts of content and reflect the academic mood of the Midwestern Seminary brand.

-
-

Several icons were used to add visual interest and help the user quickly understand high level content along the margin of the page.

-
-

In an attempt to bring more recognition to the seminary's faculty, each professor that was interviewed in the magazine had their profile depicted in a style that brings out their individual personalities.

-
-

The frequent use of illustration helps communicate complex ideas in a clear and engaging way.

The following three spreads were created in collaboration with illustrator, THOMAS DYER.

-

Telling an interesting photographic story alongside the main article helped to visually break-up lengthy blocks of text and put added emhasis on key points.

Midwestern Magazine is now available as a free digital publication for iPad, making it even more accessible. Video, animation, scrolling, and donations are all incorporated natively into the app.
