Monument to the Future

Collaborated work withJohn White andElizabeth Crawford. Graphic and Video were done by myself.
This is a monument to and of the future. Its scale is, in one sense, as monumental as scale can be: Though the work in itself is an image that will be relatively small in the night sky, it has the potential to be seen by every person who inhabits this planet—no matter their age, class, or geographical location—as well as potentially even lifeforms elsewhere. The subject of the work is the future—"future" in the sense of an otherworldly figure appearing mysteriously from space, "future" in the sense of how those who encounter the work choose to interpret the experience. The audience of the work is the entire world, going about their day-to-day life and then suddenly prompted to engage with the work. They may see the work and ignore it; they may see the work and respond. They may miss the work entirely and hear about it from a friend or the news. Regardless, the work will reach a majority of the world's population, who, by virtue of experiencing the work in whatever way they do, will inherently become participants in a worldwide act of pre-remembrance and pre-commemoration of the ever-approaching "future," as well as of remembrance and commemoration of the present condition (how we conceptualize the future now) and of the past (how it has informed present thought).
