Flowo – The reinvented typewriter
The idea at the foundation of Flowo (Flow Word) is to give new life to a tool such as the old typewriter that is no longer used nowadays.
Thanks to computer, tablet, smartphone we have never-ending solutions to type and save our texts, notes or books.
The issue when using these devices to type is that the quantity of information, inputs, notifications they can send affects the writer’s ability to concentrate, even the more disciplined one’s.
Flowo is the concept of a typewriter intended for a sole purpose: type without distractions.
Design and Operation
Flowo’s design is inspired by the main parts of a classic typewriter, thus the keyboard, the paper roller and the side knobs that allow, by rotation, to insert the paper and move it forward.
The device consists of a main body which is black and cylindrical and recalls the old roller plus two side control knobs that are used as follows: the left knob allows navigation on the device’s menu, while the right one allows to scroll the document moving from one row to the other or from one page to the following.
The main body expands with a backlit keyboard that allows typing.
Text is displayed on an e-ink screen located on the main body. The curve screen recalls the paper’s position on the roller while the screen’s width matches an A4 sheet’s width.
An e-ink screen was chosen considering its excellent legibility under every lighting condition, reading is very similar to the one with traditional paper and also the energy consumption is very low, allowing device’s use for long time.
On the back part an USB type C port is installed for eventual firmware updates and to upload documents or download the ones created. Besides the USB port, FloWo is also provided with a SD card reader, useful to save documents and read them on other devices, and with Wi-Fi connection to be able to save documents on the cloud.
