High Plains Doctor follows chief medical officer Dr. Isaac Harry Sobol and his volunteer medical team as they assemble and conduct a primary care clinic in the remote Tibetan village of Yushu. The film documents the team’s treatment of nearly 1,500 indigent patients and captures unforgettable, colourful images of the cultural life in the village, since devastated by a 7.1 magnitude earthquake. Icons of Tibetan culture, prayer flags are used to bless the surrounding countryside and also used in healing ceremonies. Because of their association with health and their strong visual connection to Tibet, they were used as a way to communicate the basis of the film visually. Posters were wild posted so that when placed side-by-side they created one continuous string of prayer flags. Each flag contains the name of the film as well as the synopsis in the shape of a cross, a universal symbol of health and wellbeing. Read Less
