The Sweetness of Doing Nothing
In collaboration with exhibition designer Lukas Schulz aka Studio Mudio I created, curated and organized "The Sweetness of Doing Nothing" – an exhibition for contemporary illustration at NRW Forum in Düsseldorf. My focus was on illustration of the keyvisual, design of the media as well as concept and art direction for the exhibition.
Our exhibition title is a reference to the Italian expression „Il dolce far niente“ and emphasises the joys and lightness of being idle. We’ve invited 26 illustrators from NRW to be creative with this topic. The exhibition highlights the diversity of contemporary illustration in all it‘s styles. In line with the theme the artworks are printed onto the fabric of folding deckchairs.
For my "Banana" illustration, I created a paper art banana as a 3-dimensional character. The banana is relaxing in different poses on a pink wave pattern and enjoys the sweetness of doing nothing. To advertise the exhibition in print, press and social media I created a keyvisual that shows the banana relaxing in a deckchair with a bold cloud font background for the title.
To give a little sneak peek of the exhibition and show how diverse and fun contemporary illustration is we invited all illustrators who are part of the exhibition to take a seat in the keyvisual with their own illustrated characters.
