Dungeon Escape Game

A short highlight reel of the game.
Here is a game I made in Adobe Flash for IM 213 at Bradley University. The game itself is very buggy and doesn't have a ton of features, but the fact that I accomplished what I did in the short amount of time I had with the limited experience of actionscript I had is something I am pround of. The game can be found here. At first the game was going to be much larger, with combat mechanics and a boss... but then I realized we had about a month to make the game and I didn't have nearly enough experience with actionscript to complete a project this size.
The title screen of my game. This was actually completed long before I typed any code.
So I turned the game into a much more basic game of find the key and avoid the enemies. The first challenge was getting the transition from each room, since it was so important to what my gameplay was. This process was very difficult and created a ton of bugs that showed up every time I tried to add something new. The movement keys and the limits for where the character could and couldn't move was actually not that difficult. and the enemies movements and killing the character turned out pretty well. But then more glitches happend including issues with the menu button, issues with blocks not disapearing from room to room, audio glitches, lives not working, and the key not showing up at all.
The first room of the game. This room is probably my favorite room in the game since it had the least amount of errors.
Finally I managed to fine tune most of the game breaking bugs, but due to the limited time some of the things I wanted to add didn't happen like the key having different areas it could be in at random when you started a new game, sprite animations for the hero, another enemy type that homed in on the player, and a lighting mechanic. But for what I had to do and the time it took I am still proud. The game looks pretty good (in my personal opinion) and I am proud that it is playable. For all of the effort, heartache, pain, suffering, and time I put into this project I am still happy with the finished project.
And people say that I am a bit dark. I don't know why they would say that...
