A documentary film following the stories of families who live in alternative religious communities and segregated communes. Askingquestions such as what makes people so disillusioned with 'conventional life' that they would risk raising their children in an experiment? What happens during the lifecycle of a family against unorthodox backdrops? And most importantly, what are the experiences of the children themselves?
This documentary will be created not only with stories of the protagonistsin mind, but also as a journey of self discovery for the documentary maker herself; having been raised in one of the worlds most infamous groups 'The Children of God', to help her gain a better understanding into her own past,upbringing, and possibly relationship with her family now.
Told through the eyes of the families involved, this film will be a non-judgmental view into the lives of alternative living; will this exploration be a heart-breaking and alarming look the world of religious sects? Or the stories of ordinary people that just don't believe the conventional is right, and are raising their children in the best way they know how.
