Orchid Shell | 蘭殼 (2022)

Title: Orchid Shell
Stone clay
50 x 28 x 10 cm

Artist Statement
From moulding to sanding, searching the lines I was trying to create. Good with watery sound, the sanding rhythm is matching with the insects.

A broken shell, is it a shell or a flower? Orchid requires love, tender and care. Open a hole on the shell to let water goes, and also be able to get support. Reasons and functions of holes are unexpected.

The sculpture inspired by shapes of shells, and it explored lines and presentations, texture and nature. A combination of an orchid and a shell, neither hard or soft, fragile or long-lasting.
Various shapes and lines constructed the forms of the piece. Attached the shell to the orchid stem.
Thank you for your time.
