WEEK 5 | PHOTOGRAPHY AND LIGHTING | #ONEPERDAY2022

PHOTOSHOOTING
THE TASK
This weeks task involved taking various photos in 5 different contexts and focusing on lighting techniques and placement.
TOPIC 1 | #ONEPERDAY2022
Self Portrait

Taken with an iPhone 12

Description: For my self-portrait I decided to use coloured light as a way to create a unique end product. I experimented with different coloured lights and different filters for the photos.

I used a neutral dark coloured back ground which allowed for this colour play. I ended up using blue and red lights which in some photos merged together to create a purple colour. This was really fun to experiment with.

I used a dark room for this exercise so it was only the light that I wanted in the photo. I found it better this way as it created an environment that I could control.
TOPIC 2 | #ONEPERDAY2022
Close friend or family member portrait

Taken with an iPhone 12

Description: The portrait I decided to take was of my cat, willow. I decided to photograph her for this task as she was readily available and super photogenic. The photo was taken on my iPhone while using different camera settings.

I enhanced the photo a little bit to modify the clarity of the image. I feel by doing this it made the image clearer as well as adding more depth and it enhanced the lighting.

She is backlit with natural lighting from windows situated behind her. This creates a cool lighting effect against her fur by outlining her body and face with the light.

This photo really captured her personality as she is always sleeping and due to this I woke her up trying to photograph her.
TOPIC 3 | #ONEPERDAY2022
Small Worlds

Taken with an iPhone 12

Description: The scene I captured for my small world was that of two little animal figurines playing in a plant to which one slips and is hanging from a stalk while the other is on the ground watching. I struggled to get the angle on this one so both faces could be seen as well as block out all exterior backgrounds.
TOPIC 4 | #ONEPERDAY2022
Object Photography

Taken with an iPhone 12

Description:
The object I decided to photograph for this topic was an avocado. I chose this object because it was the perfect size to fit into my infinity photo booth box and it also had a lot of texture which allowed for different shadows.

The one I like the best is the one with the different coloured lighting, I think it creates a really fun and unique photo. It has the two split colours of red and blue coming from both sides of the avocado, there was also a diffused light being shot from about to allow for a brighter image.

I used different settings on my phone camera to change the contrast and shadows which I feel really enhanced the images.
TOPIC 5 | #ONEPERDAY2022
Texture Hunt

Taken with an iPhone 12

Description:
This topic involved finding and photographing textures around us. I found that the coffee beans in my coffee machine made for a really cool photo. The lighting was casted in a way that created unique shadowing and enhanced the contrast on each bean.

The other two photographs were taken of my converse shoe as I found the lace was partially frayed which made some cool textures. Using my phone really close and adding shadows and different camera settings, I found I could create some really fun depth to the photo.
REFLECTION
This weeks task was by far my favourite as it really allowed for me to branch out in an area that I don't get to experience often which is the world of photography. Photography is something that I have always admired as it is such a beautiful thing and there are some really talented people that can capture amazing images.

This task allowed me to try and embody those talented people and really challenged me to capture good imagery, to which I accomplished to my own extent. I really enjoyed experimenting with different lighting techniques to which i found my favourite which is using coloured lights.

Photography as a whole is such a fun art experience that challenges people to try to capture a real life thing in just a photo. I really challenged my brain to think what kind of lighting a specific item would need to really capture the subject.
