Custom End Tables

This was a set of tables I created for a customer.  I used a mixture of domestic walnut, hard maple for the legs, hard curly maple, for the drawer faces, and wenge for the drawer pulls.  The tables were meant to be used as end tables so they are just around 2 feet high.  I was very pleased with the final results, though, unfortunately, the photgraphs don't fully convey the beauty in the woodgrain.
For the case construction, I prefer to use a simple lap joint with visible dowel pins in a contrasting wood siimply for the visual aspect of it.  The results are a very strong joint with an attractive, clean design elelment.  I will sometimes use a similar method for attatching tabletops, as seen here also, though in some instances this type of connection is not the best solution due to the weight and strength constraints it can present.
The biggest challenge these table provided me was actually carving the legs.  I use this type of carving in my work quite often, but eight legs in hard maple was very exhausting and time consuming.
I was quite please with the finished style and mix of woods.  I've been toyiing with the idea of creating another set  that's similar...yet different, as always.
