"Diversity"
Community Mural Project Workshop / Sunset Park “Wellness Celebration 2022”
WHAT IS THE WELLNESS CELEBRATION?
The wellness celebration aims to enhance the well-being of local residents and increase awareness of the immigrant health resources available in our community. The right to health and wellness living is not bounded by income, religion, or race. It is not a product of which community we live in. We can all be empowered to live healthy and take charge of our own lives. This celebration brings friends, family and neighbors together to discover health and wellness as a vital element of our everyday lives.
This year's event had various activities promoting health and wellness. Children tie-dyed face masks, participated in hula hooping contests and relay races, helped paint a community mural, planted seeds in pots they decorated, and more. Estimated 1,000+ attendees came to the event.

CONCEPT
Sunset Park is well-known for its diverse immigrant residence area. I drew three illustrations on the theme of "diversity" in Sunset Park. The hand-raising gesture expresses a first greeting for communication. And the other hand with  changed direction represents a response to the greeting. Bright and uplifting colors which are not associated with certain countries are chosen. Simple yet universal decorative elements of dots and stripes are mixed into the patterns found in hands to express symbolic idea of differences harmonized into togetherness.
