Client: Meta Open Arts / Latinx Heritage Month / 2021

For Latinx Heritage Month, Meta Open Arts commissioned me to create an artwork.
The concept was to make visible the Latino migration and its cultural richness in the United States, using the different skin tones as main colors. From this base I created 2 artworks.

“The inhabitants of the hills descended and emigrated to America, seeking a better life.”

Underneath the list of Latin American countries is the phrase "The Hills Come Down."This refers to the migration of people from the provinces into cities in search of work.
In the case of this design, the inhabitants of “The Hills” have moved to the United States to seek a better life, sharing their cultural diversity and richness along the way.

“America is Latinx. Our brown identity shines over the entire continent.”

We focused on the diversity of the people throughout Latin America, using a gradient of skin tones to unite Latinx people in a symbolic way.
“The violence and structural racism that I and so many other migrants faced and continue to live through led me to play with the tones of our skin and reflect that in the colors of the United States flag.”
