Introducing the 1950's Porsche 550 Spyder
aka "The Rotterdam" project
______________________________________________________
Modern reproduction of a 1950s Porsche race car with original design lines. Combined with classic style and contemporary approach for an updated driving experience.
Presented in Dunkelrot Metallic, a shade previously used on the 1966-1969 Porsche 911 and 912 models between 1966-1969.
The car features FIA-approved vintage-style bucket seats, wrapped in a rich dark coffee brown leather, paired with updated digital gauge clusters.
This model features vintage-style wheels with a gunmetal gray finish and silver rims, slightly redesigned for a modern touch. The car also has original size tires.
Fun fact: the Porsche wheel cap crest always points to the valve stem.
Initial body buck and car design was done for a Dutch client. The CAD body buck files are available and are based on that exact car. The Dutch car will be powered by Subaru engine and is going to be used mainly as a weekend track car.
Body Buck design:
The main goal here is to keep as much as possible of the overall shape, while using least amount of plywood.
Hollow type of construction resting on top of 50mm x 50mm metal/wood frame. Lightweight design and easy to move around the shop/garage. Very sturdy "hollow" type 2-Axis design, 52 individual parts in total; 9mm plywood cut files and fully assembled file included, cut using 6mm tool.
Easy to assemble, everything pieces together like a big-boy Lego and is in 1:1 scale/dimension as the original car:
Few CAD assembly renders from Fusion 360:

Extras, tests and behind the scenes:

Tests with different colours and render setups
Corona 9 scanned car paint. Assets used here are listed below.
Silver colour just works with classic German cars from that era. One of the most crisp results I have managed to get. Special thanks goes to Steven;
This setup was mainly used for CAD headlight material study:
I quite liked this studio setup in the beginning, but Instagram had some issues with this shade of red - the compression ruined the whole thing so I decided to not use it:

The initial design phase with the early body shape that was later completely remodeled;
These were first published in August 2022:

The Canvas:
I very often order myself canvas prints of my own work to keep.

Early composition and relighting tests;
I was studying different ways to give boring backplates some extra life, this project was perfect base:

Software used:

Car was made and designed using Autodesk 3ds Max and the CAD buck design was created in Autodesk Inventor. Wheels, side mirrors, interior components, exhaust and many other smaller details were made using Autodesk Fusion360 as its better for 3D sketching and surface modeling.

Rendered using Autodesk 3ds Max with Chaos Corona Renderer 9 and Fusion360 built in renderer.
Post production and relight of the scenes made in Photoshop and Lightroom
Some textures were enhanced by Topaz Gigapixel AI.
Luminar Neo was used for experimenting with AI post-process in same cases.

Entire project was done between July 2022 and January 2023. Yes, 7 months on and off. We went back and forth numerous times with the design and generic shape, and made the buck as easy and cost efficient to produce as possible.

This entire Behance project shows only small fraction of renders, tests and changes made during the entire process.

Quite a bit of time went into this project :)
