Form Exploration
The original idea was to make a figurative animal incense burner. After I referenced some murals, the image in my mind has become plump. I decided to make a cunning and adorable farting fox.
This is the first time I used polygonal modeling in a project. I used plasticine to make mockups reference, which made my life easier to model in Rhino.
Manufacturing Progress
Abnormal shapes are the most difficult to form for ceramic crafting. To solve the molding problem, I modified the model more than three times.
During the firing process, the upper cover must be buckled together with the lower cover, otherwise, it will not be closed. However, the thickness of the upper cover will increase pressure on the lower cover, thereby crushing the lower cover. Tons of unexpected problems have to be solved in the process.
The whole proofing process lasted for 3 months, and I finally got satisfactory samples. In this project, I got a deeper understanding of ceramic craftsmanship and manufacturing.
