I created websites for several restaurants while working as assistant manager for Garlic Inc. in 2003.
My favorite part of these projects was creating a design motif for Marcos Pizzeria that used custom fonts and Photoshop brushes based on advertisements in nineteenth-century magazines. The distressed, vintage look emphasized the restaurant’s long history and casual atmosphere.
My approach to the background code emphasized clean, standards-compliant XHTML and CSS. I created the visual elements in close collaboration with the restaurant owners at a time when skeuomorphic textures were fashionable and 800x600 was still a significant minority of screen resolutions.
