Palacio Negro

“A territory is whole when part of its geography becomes a mistery which is renewed and
reinterpreted constantly by its inhabitants”. Palacio Negro.

Palacio Negro is a project conformed by three main elements: a model made out of cardboard and carved paper suspended by wires, a book, and our AGN (General Nation´s Archives) researcher´s credentials.
The model represents the area within a perimeter conformed by four institutions of cultural power
(museums) and their intrincate underground connections: tunnels carved in the history records of these buildings which link them to institutions of economic power (banks).

Titled Palacio Negro, the book unites in a narrative fashion the underground network that it recreates trhough the historical data research of the AGN and the popular tales; the use of this bibliography, grants it with authorithy.

The subject of Mexico City taken from the classification elaborated by Dr. Néstor García Canclini in his text:
The four cities of Mexico, works as a conceptual commandment for the creation of this work, one that does
not pretend to encompass the city from a visible, historic, architectonic or social stance, but from what it represents on the symbolic level on a day to day basis to each one of it´s inhabitants.
