"Restoration of an Antique Singer Sewing Machine"

Hello everyone, I hope you are well.

I'm here to share another restoration I did, for one of my clients.

An Antique Singer Sewing Machine.

The client wanted the machine to be just for display, due to the fact that it was no longer completely complete and the missing parts were very difficult to find.

And I did.

This sewing machine was in very poor condition, in addition to the lack of parts immediately apparent, it was full of rust and the wooden top was badly damaged not only by time but also by the wood bug that had devoured a large part of the pine remaining top.

After evaluating the machine, I started to dismantle it until I managed to get to all the rust spots, at the same time I took pictures to have the assembly instructions and exact locations for all the parts.

Then I applied an anti-rust product to all metal parts, including the entire base of the machine, passed several layers, with drying periods between each layer.

I put oil on the pedal and on the lower wheel of the machine, part that I managed to get back to work.

With two pine wood boards, of two different thicknesses, I created from 0% the top and bottom tops for the machine. I cut and sanded the leaks to fit the "machine head" (top side of the machine).

At the end I put the treatment and protection for the wood of the tops, with Bondex and Varnish. After the anti-rust product took effect, I started painting the machine and all the metal parts, where there were mechanisms, reliefs or decals, I applied lacquer and a metallic spray for the highlights and details.

In the end it was hand painted with a metallic gold ink, the drawings and calligraphy of the machine head. On the base of the machine the letters SINGER were painted in silver, to match the rest of the machine.

And finally it was time for the assembly and placement of a varnish on the entire machine, putting an end to this restoration.
