WEIRDFEST, 2021 - Paradise Lakes Campground in Wharton State Forest, NJ
This sign, meant as a satire of the music festival at which it was mounted, Beardfest, was guerilla artwork that was not approved prior to the event. As a bright and unexpected object hovering in the air across from one of two live music stages, it was impossible to ignore. The community was delighted.
The Weirdfest sign was suspended between two trees on paracord, and powered using electrical hookups originally meant for RVs at the event site.
Construction took several weeks. Materials used were pegboard, black gaffer's tape, zip ties, gorilla glue, cardboard, and five interconnected LED strands for a total of nearly 1,000 lights.
This piece was dismantled and recycled to create other work immediately following the event.
