About the Project:

"Our client had a general idea that they wanted to show two players playing against each other with the guy using OnePlus phone ultimately winning the game. His phone is faster because it has a specific - for new OnePlus phones - HyperBoost feature. 
We started developing this idea and in the early days of project discussion were still thinking if we should shoot a video or do full CG or do a mix of both. Ultimately we decided to go full CG route because we felt that we can make it entertaining and different while having a strong branding message."

Both client and us had a good idea what kind of aesthetic we want to give to our characters. Think of today’s NFT avatars. Both guys are cool dudes but there is an evil side with our antagonist. We dressed our protagonist with branded OnePlus colors and added other branding elements to his surrounding.

Challenge: 

"The main challenge was to create a clear visual difference between the antagonist and protagonist. We only have few seconds to express who’s the “good guy” here. At the same time we don’t want of course to make the other guy to look super bad. I mean at the end his only fault - he’s using a wrong phone.  That took a couple of rounds of revisions to nail it down."

"We started the project with developing the actual characters - their faces, look, wardrobe, facial expressions, development of their environments, finding right “props”. Music was extremely important element of the development as well. Then there were little but important things like what characters see on their screens and how fast they move. The latter was super important since we were doing an ad about speed advantages of a OnePlus device. If you look closely you see that everything’s happening faster for the OnePlus character and our antagonist is slowed down by the abilities of his phone."
