This short guideline is based on our 5+ years of experience and aims to figure out what options to choose when the project comes to the animation and rig stage. The methods of implementation of rig controllers are divided from the most complex to the simplest, it gives the opportunity to choose a suitable way of implementation of rig and animation for your project. 



Complexity rigging
A complex rig provides the creation of detailed rig with controllers of the character’s body or solid object. This means that you have the ability to control or interact with any area or place on the character’s body.

Complex rig provides:
IK/FK switch
Face rig
Body rig
Hand, fingers rig
Legs rig
Any joint rig





Objects/Vehicle rigging
Complex rigging for solid-state objects such as machines, fixed objects, weapons, etc. Rig can contain controllers for object interaction, automation, damage control, collection and breakdown. Rig level of detail for solid-state objects may be unlimited, depending on the object. 






Quick / lowlevel rigging
Low-level rigging of character or object means fast and not complex approach to rig character or object. This means that the character will only have the most necessary rigging.



Differenses
If you need to rig a small character for a game mod or a small project - you should use Quick / low-level rigging.

If you need to rig an AAA character or an object - you should use Complexity rigging
