This Vernacular Font Book and the CD contain ten free style fonts. I used the typography captured in the pages of Vernacular Typography around Singapore book as inspiration to design all these fonts. In order to make the letterforms seem “un-designed” and look like people hand-drawn type, I had to break rules in typography such as the same x-height and space between these letters. These fonts created are over my expectation. As my point of view, it was a very interesting type design process. Some fonts I based on the visual patterns I noticed in signs, some fonts I created by getting inspired from these vernacular typography letters. The Vernacular Typography around Singapore and Vernacular Fonts Book will bring a new inspiration for type designer. It also will show a new direction to design typeface nowadays. I truly hope you enjoy using them.
