SALT follows Rossi’s ICE series as part of her decade-long project “METAMORPHOSIS” on global warming. The artist ponders what would happen once all the glaciers have melted and global temperatures continued to increase? As water evaporates and lakes disappear, Salt flats - massive evaporative basins that extend for miles – will appear as they already have in other times in the planet’s history.
As more and more dried out lakes and salt flats emerge, they bear silent witness to our planet's transformation. But in some of these images, the rainclouds illuminated by the last rays of the sun and the glistening remnants of water on the surface could also be interpreted as a sign of hope. It is not yet too late to change the course of our planet’s future,
it does, indeed depend on us...
