This project utilizes and remixes existing words and symbols from signage in the Providence area to play with our expectations of what you see on building exteriors. Graphic design and signage are an expected way to define a public space, so this is a self-referential, unexpected mashup of business catch-terms and emblems. Emphasizing vernacular signage style, materials, and descriptive language, this art reflects the transitional state of this district with a playful gesture, while referencing Providence communities outside of itself.
