Financial Education in Peruvian Amazonic Rainforest

UNICA - Credit and Savings Unions
A financial education experience in the Peruvian Amazonic Rainforest
The amazing Amazonic Rainforest crossed by the Ucayali river, the longest river in Perú.
First by aircraft then by chartered boat, we arrived at Contamana, a town inhabited by descendants of Shipibo-Conibo indigenous community.
The Shipibos have always lived in harmony with the environment and played a important role as natural conservationists.
SERFOR and COFIDE provided the financial education training to Contamana comunity in order to conform UNICAs, Credit and Savings Unions.
The UNICAs enable the participants themselves to create savings among the associates and thus begin to generate credit for them and other members of their community.
This knowledge allows them to meet basic needs and finance productive entrepreneurship that improve their family income.
Members of the Credit and Savings Unions pleased to be trained in administration and basic accounting
SERFOR has trained small forest producers, members of the UNICAs, to promote the conservation and sustainable use of the forest in the Peruvian Amazon.
The bolaina is a fast-growing tree that can be ready for harvest in a few years
Walter, is a producer from Contamana who through bolaina forest plantations seeks to ensure the future of his family.
Cutting and selling timber legally is expensive and complicated for small farmers
Alonso joins Las Perlas from Alto Perillo UNICA, which allow him to acces credit to invest in his sawmill business.
Jeremy, a young producer of bolaina is optimistic about his future since he became
a member of Ipuano Progresa UNICA.
Carlos, an enthusiastic farmer owns bamboo plantations and with his family produce many bamboo derived products.
A great experience to be in amazonic rainforest, not only for its wondeful landscapes but above all its warm people with one thing in common:
the will to learn and do something to improve themselves.
