History and development, "Umeda".

Umeda Station was originally established as a freight station. It was opened in 1928 to separate the freight transportation function from Osaka Station. The Umeda Freight Line runs through this area, and the whole area has long been known as "Osaka Kita Yard.
In the 1940s, Hanshin Mart, the predecessor of Hanshin Department Store, was established, and the town gradually became prosperous. After World War II, residential areas were developed one after another in the process of reconstruction. With the construction of stations, the opening of underground shopping malls and commercial facilities, Umeda rapidly prospered.
During the period of high economic growth, redevelopment took place in the Diamond District on the south side of Osaka Station, and construction of four buildings, Osaka Ekimae Building No. 1 through No. 4, was completed. These were the largest skyscrapers in Osaka at the time. The area's remarkable growth led to the nickname "Shiodome in the East, Umeda in the West".
