Christmas EveL dance project
I. INTRODUCTION
“Christmas EveL” is originally released by StrayKids- a boy group from Korea, with dance choreography conducted by BUV Dance Club.
The project aims to illustrate the participants from the dance version in a cartoonish and exaggerating way, which proves to be suitable for Christmas theme. The idea is to put all the dancers in an open Christmas gift box, with snow falling in the background.
II. DESIGN ELEMENTS & PROCESS
The main challenge is to identify the most striking features from 9 dancers' faces, then maintain and exaggerate them in the drawings. Furthermore, their outfits are drawn based on what they wore in the video (link attached above). The samples and results are placed below.
After taking facial characteristics into consideration, the loose sketch is produced. Towards the models who bear a "average" looks and are difficult to exaggerate, two models are put into the same double page, so that each one's features are recognized much easier. Later, the Reilly method is applied for abstraction sketch, and then the final outcome is brought to Procreate for coloring.
