"Patrimonio ahogado"
Digital collage about the flooding of Guatavita La Vieja
In 1967 the Guatavas were transferred to a white town destined for tourism while their home town was submerged under the waters of the Tominé reservoir. Along with the mud and bahareque houses, their traditions, and part of their culture, were also drowned. This is currently a topic on which many social projects are carried out in order to recover memory and recover heritage.
The collage represents the moment when everything was flooded and the community was lost with their things in a new place where everything was unknown. The position of the woman with her son in her arms and the suitcases at her feet denote that feeling of perplexity. The mountain that stands behind her is "Montecillo", the actual hill that hugs the new town.
