A composition of sound
The Playful Experience is a family of speakers communicating through airPlay. I wanted to take full advantage of the airPlay technology, which allows you to play music wirelessly from anywhere to anywhere over wifi. I wanted to create an ubiquitous sound system, so that music could be enjoyed in every situation in the home.
My challenge was to create a family of speakers that could physically be positioned several places and aesthetically work together in the same room. Most speakers usually contain three speaker elements, ranging from low to high frequency. I separated these elements into individual speakers. By doing so, it was made possible to customize the sound for the different homes as well as they can more easily adapt and blend in with the surrounding interiors.
The speaker family consists of five stationary, each with one speaker element, and one mobile. The mobile covers all necessary frequencies, and is light weight as it leaves behind it's charging station. I wanted the modules to fit in in the home, and chose natural materials such as ash, wool, concrete and leather.
