Blacken Slash Boxart

Blacken Slash Boxart

For this project Gentleland® created the artwork to represent the game "Blacken Slash" by Mario "ehmprah" Kaiser online. Focus and inspiration of the work was to capture the unique feel of the game and it's main character - a triangular prism. One of the main inspirations for the artwork were 80s synthwave graphics, the look of the game itself and boxart of existing classics such as "Tetris" and "Marble Madness".
Steam Capsule Art

To make sure the game would remain recognizsable across different platforms and stores, one of the key requirements for the boxart of  "Blacken Slash"  was to create an illustration, which would work for multiple resolutions and multiple purposes. To do this, we created a modular render of a 3D scene with simple shapes, which we then overpainted amd applied filters to in order to evoke an nostalgic feeling.

Original Artwork

To ensure high modularity we made sure to leave enough space in our to a high-res image to allow post-processing and usage with different resoluions.
The original artwork features not only the main character, but also ingame enemies, which were added in as individual modules.
