Hall of Democracy
2019
The vision of the new Peoples Democracy project is integrating new processes within the old system to push it into the future. This new process allows the people of Australia to have a say in the approach the country takes on issues. The building uses this idea to influence the form, combining the historic past of Brisbane through stone, with newer materials such as glass and space frame structures. It also adds elements that pull the whole ensemble together with a lattice and curvilinear form that creates an icon within the Brisbane cityscape. The lattice structure of the facade is an element that has never been seen in the centre therefore creating a standout feature that ties together the current and historic elements of the design. The orientation of the building on the site is done in a way that allows the continuation of greenery from the botanic gardens to connect with the new casino precinct, creating a fluid transition.
