TRACCE // ongoing personal project

TRACCE
This personal project started involuntary five years ago. I’ve always liked to take pictures or videos in random moments, as if I wanted to fight the idea that only big and significant events had the privilege to be portrayed. When I was a teenager and started bringing to my mind situations from the past, I realized that the sense that my memories where relying on the most was not sight, but hearing. So I started thinking how interesting it would be to associate those random pictures with a song following any criteria that could possibly come up to my mind while watching the picture (memories, lyrics, colours, emotions, subject/action happening in the image). Once I connected a few pictures with different songs, I had a moment of contemplation in which I realized that linking those basic and almost non-sense visuals with the meaningful and subconscious impact of music made them become the kind of situations your dreams create. With this idea in my head, I decided to add some layers to the perception of the pictures by editing their aspect, colors and shaped with different effects and by drawing on them in order to bring them out of normal standards or expected daily situations in which they were taken.
The connection the mind creates between a random picture and a song is given by the same process we subconsciously make while we dream. It is stunning how two or more extremely opposite things are so simply connected in our dreams just because of our mind’s freedom to find the exact impossible thing they have in common. There is one definition for this phenomenon in our awaken world, and that is metaphorical figures. The idea that two different words can be related through an ''invisible connection'' highlights the importance of perspective, which is the actual thing that lets you see those invisible links. The more ways you would be able to look at something, the more diverse things you would connect to it. In a way, the fusion of two different languages such as visual art and music into just one composition is the first and most significant metaphorical figure that connects all my works.
the title of the project refers to the two different meanings of the word 'tracce' which means 'traces' such as the ones your life experiences leave inside of you, and 'tracks' that reconnects with the impact of music and sounds on the perception and memorisation of events.
