This piece is the result of my second public collaborative project in tbd Loft Gallery. I wanted to expand upon some of the ideas explored with my Public Portrait Project No. 1 held at the March First Friday, such as the celebration of how we see ourselves as individuals and as members of our complex community.
Rather than orchestrate another project giving total control to the participants over their own creations, I have chose to rally energy into a single piece. It was great to collaborate with the public in generating countless layers of figure outlines as the hero of this work. The complexity of the image served well as a reflection of the dynamic profile of our community.
On this fateful evening, I was introduced to Erin Gorrie—twice. Two years later she would marry me. We are both traced somewhere in this piece, making this a physical testament of how we found each other.
