The Soweto International Jazz Festival is the first international music and arts festival that is devoted to the chronicled region, Johannesburg. This festival is a unique experience, that highlights the rich culture of the township with a bountiful supply of international music, art, cuisine and adventure.
The event takes place at the Soweto Theatre complex that accommodates indoor and outdoor spaces with vendors, artists, food, as well as VIP events that are designed to connect people through the magic of music and art.
The two-day festival is not only limited to jazz but also includes soul, contemporary and African music.
Artists like Bob James, the Neville Brothers (Grammy Award artists), as well as SA’s Jazz and R&B artists such as Ernie Smith, Zama Jobe and Charlie Wilson performed previously. Local artists like Nasty C, Lady Zamar also featured in previous festivals.

SAFM, Metro FM, Radio 2000, and other SABC radio stations dedicate towards promoting the festival by unpacking themes in live broadcasts and interviews.
Previous festivals were centered around the late legend of Jazz musician; Hugh Masekela and the late former president Nelson Mandela.
For the print media I designed for a portrait billboard - as in Soweto portrait billboards are common and street posters for the event poster and line up poster. As well as an event poster and line-up poster, which will be up at bus stops.
The chosen social media platform I chose to work with was Facebook. The reason for this was because based on the target audience for the festival, Facebook would be best for marketing and promoting the festival to its audience. This best suits the audience as it is a most commonly used and known media platform in this day and age and also, middle-aged people are most commonly found on this platform.
For the promotional merchandise, I designed reversible bucket hats, t-shirts and water bottles to be given out before as well as at the event.
