RUBEDO
The Latin term rubedo, which can be translated as "redness", designates in alchemy the last phase of the Great Work, the one "at the Red" after nigredo and albedo: it is the final completion of the chemical transmutations, which culminate with the realisation of the philosopher's stone and the conversion of base metals into gold. If nigredo consisted of putrefaction and albedo of distillation, rubedo occurs by sublimation under the effect of fire, i.e. the Spirit.
