Life on our planet began in the Ocean.
Taking action for its future is now more critical than ever.

This is the aim of the "Mare Dire Fare" festival in Trieste, Italy (literally: sea, tell, do).

Starting from local research groups like AMP Miramare to national WWF, they want to increase awareness and the culture of respect for the sea and its resources.

I was invited to make seven illustrations representing ocean literacy principles in a group exhibition, "il mare si fa in 7."

I have chosen to highlight the intrinsic relationship between the sea and Earth through a playful dance of lines.
Ocean literacy principles:

1. The Earth has one big ocean with many features.
2. The ocean and life in the ocean shape the features of Earth.
3. The ocean is a major influence on weather and climate.
4. The ocean makes Earth habitable.
5. The ocean supports a great diversity of life and ecosystems.
6. The ocean and humans are inextricably interconnected.
7. The ocean is largely unexplored.
