Are you worried about the safety of your small children when you go for a drive? As a mother of three children, I am always concerned about their well-being. This is why I purchased booster seats for my two young children, aged four and five.

While making my purchase selection, I learned about the various types of booster seats available on the market. You cannot simply purchase any seat. First, write down your criteria and compare them to the features of the booster seats you want to buy.

To make your buying decision easier, I've listed all five varieties of booster seats on the market, along with their applications. This will save you a lot of time and trouble. Continue reading and you'll thank me later.

Types of Booster Seats

1. Rear Facing Car Seat

This is the ideal seat for your child. It contains a harness to keep your child secure. In the case of a collision, this rear-facing car seat will keep the youngster safe and move with him, reducing stress on his delicate neck and spinal cord.

2. Forward Facing Car Seat

Another form of booster car seat is the forward-facing car seat. It contains a harness and tether strap to keep your youngster from moving forward in the event of a crash.

3. Backless Booster Seats

This is the "standard" type of booster seat. It is a type of cushion that raises your child's seat belt position in the vehicle seat. Some backless boosters can be connected to the vehicle seat using the LATCH system, while others just rest on it.

To protect the head and neck from harm when using a backless booster seat, your child's ears should be in line with the top of the car seatback. A backless bustier should only be worn in a vehicle equipped with head restraints.

4. High Back Booster Seats

Booster seats with high back provide additional safety due to impact-absorbing side extensions, or "wings," that wrap around the neck, head, and in some versions, the sides. These booster seats typically contain guides that set the vehicle's seat belt correctly over the shoulder, chest, and hips. The LATCH mechanism can be used to secure booster seats to vehicle seats in many circumstances.

5. Combination Booster Seats

A combination booster seat is basically a high-back booster seat with the extra safety of a five-point harness that may be removed. In the event of a collision, the longer your child is strapped into a five-point harness, the safer he or she will be. If your child outgrows the weight and height constraints of a five-point harness, combination boosters allow you to easily remove the harness system and replace it with a high-back, belt-worn booster.

A combined booster seat may be an excellent alternative for people trying to get the most bang for their money when purchasing a car seat. Many combo boosters, like convertible car seats, can work for younger children who have outgrown the convertible seat, but still, require the safety and security of a five-point harness.

After conducting extensive study, I can state unequivocally that no brand or style of car seat is "better" or "correct." The safest car seat or booster seat is always the one that properly holds your child when the time comes. In my case, the Paw Patrol booster seat was the greatest option. Check your needs and make your choice accordingly. Good luck!
