Upcycled Furniture Contest: Andromeda Table

Libraries have no proper way of disposing or recycling thousands of bound journals, periodicals and books, as many of the materials used in binding the books cannot be recycled. Therefore, the prompt was to create a piece of furniture with RIT's old and now obsolete periodicals and encyclopedias.

The Andromeda table was designed to be an interactive and decorative piece. The main stand of the table is intended to be leafed through, to look through the pages of the past. The table top is meant to be eye catching, acknowledging that it was created for the Wallace library: while creating the piece, I discovered that many of the old encyclopedias and periodicals had tags in them, stating that they were RIT property; and furthermore that the style of the tags themselves changed over the years. With this, I decided to make that a main feature of the table top itself.

The table was a finalist in the competition!
