SHANGSHANG LECTURE II

Designer: SenseTeam

Category: Brand Design, Promotion/Campaign, Concept Video

SHANGSHANG LECTURE was founded in 2015. It is sponsored by SY Land and undertaken by POSITION (You Fang). It serves as a platform for cross-cultural and cross-category and enables in-depth communication between artists and interested publics. The second season of SHANGSHANG LECTURE invited architect Zhang Yonghe, artist Liu Xiaodong, designer Hu Rushan and writer Xu Zhiyuan as guest speakers.

INSIGHT

In terms of image design, SenseTeam considers an element that is more culturally inclusive and can reflect the speaker's personality and ideas. We explore the changes and constructions brought about by the three-dimensional restoration of two-dimensional representations, and explore the possibility of design from the relationship among works, people and nature. The second season uses graphic presentations to highlight people's characteristics and concepts, using dots, concentric circles, water lines, and radiation visual elements to display different cultural textures.

DESIGN CONCEPT
ARCHITECT ZHANG YONGHE

Zhang Yonghe is the founder and chief architect of AtelierFCJZ, a professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Tongji University, and a judge of the Pritzker Architecture Prize.

Zhang Yonghe started with "The Story of Frankenstein's Man", and used his dual identities to discuss the current situation of Chinese cities and the development of urban space. The first identity is as an architect, concerned about the content of architectural space in the city; the second identity is as a city resident, to look at the problems of the city. Zhang Yonghe said that if the different functions of a city are well integrated, the density of the city is of quality. The density of a city is closely related to the life of the people in the city. At the same time, when expounding urban aesthetics, the mainstream aesthetics are summarized into three words: change, big, point. That is, the tendency to pursue abundance, monotony phobia and the taste for change are very popular, and then the pursuit of large, the pursuit of volume. The pursuit of grandeur is to be keen to create monuments, landmarks, a point-like thing. The house can also be seen as an object sitting there.

SenseTeam uses dots to represent the density of the city, and at the same time, it also integrates the "change, big, point" that the city's aesthetic pursuits through dynamic changes, fully integrating the speaker's identity and point of view.

ARTIST LIU XIAODONG

Liu Xiaodong is a well-known Chinese painter, a professor of the Oil Painting Department of the Central Academy of Fine Arts.

"Empty City" is a series of works created by Liu Xiaodong in the summer of 2015 in Ordos. For a long time before this, Liu Xiaodong had been paying attention to this "ghost city" with Chinese characteristics described by the Western media and the issues it raised about China's urban planning. He chose Ordos, Inner Mongolia, as the location for the on-site painting of this project, and tried to explore Chinese-style ideal life and ideal city. Liu Xiaodong discusses what an ideal life is in the context of the current Chinese lifestyle. "What is our dream?" he asked cautiously.

SenseTeam outlines rippling concentric circles with lines that symbolize Liu Xiaodong's direct brushstrokes in reality. No matter how big the vortex is, they always surround the core of the concentric circles and do not deviate from their own orbits. This is also what SenseTeam has felt from Liu Xiaodong's works, that every ordinary character has different degrees of profound gaze on life.

DESIGNER HU RUSHAN

Hu Rushan is an interior designer and product designer, architect, founder of Neri&Hu Design Lab, Design Republic and Neri&Hu Production.

The theme of her lecture is "Reminiscence·Reflection·City". Hu Rushan shared some recent thoughts on design, city, history, past and future. Among them, she mentioned that "good design is not necessarily the best. Many people later asked me why, in fact, what I mean is to blindly provide a comfortable experience, and indulging in this comfort will not necessarily produce a good architecture. Works. Sometimes we still need some contradictions, some incongruities, some conflicts, in order to sublimate our works.” This perceptual discussion allows the rational content to gradually penetrate into the memory of the audience. Not necessarily fully understood, but as a person living in the city, it must resonate.

Inspired by the urban context and nostalgia, SenseTeam chooses to water ripples to express the fluctuations about emotions, thoughts, self and the city. At the same time, as the only woman among the four keynote speakers, we also hope to show its soft temperament like water with ripples.

WRITER XU ZHIYUAN

Xu Zhiyuan is a writer, publisher, founder of "One Direction Space", and host of the talk show "Thirteen Invitations".

As the finale guest, Xu Zhiyuan discussed the views of several intellectuals in coastal China in the 19th century on China's transformation. Xu Zhiyuan believes that the vitality of thought is the strength of its length to cope with reality. It is temporarily forgotten at this moment, but they will be reawakened eventually. As for the reformers of that era, Xu Zhiyuan highly praised them, "I think they still have the things of the Chinese scholar-officials that put the world first, and they have a semi-religious power, which is a particularly important driving force for society."

Xu Zhiyuan has a penetrating power of culture, and this penetrating power directly hits the soul to test people's hearts. SenseTeam chooses to use radiation to show this penetrating power, which is direct and full of power, fast and resolute.
