Matt Schroeder's profile

Vessels & Packaging

I never thought I would love designing packaging, but once I got a taste it quickly became one of my favorite things to create. From the initial dieline and dimensional groundwork to the final concept design and working with manufacturers to ensure durability, packaging is a heck of a fun way to spend the work day.
A significant departure from the traditional packaging used at TouchMath, these grade leveled kits for the new Common Core State Standards curriculum represented the first packaging created under the new rebranding program. Each unit featured a slide-out inner box which contained six capacity pocket folders, an implementation guide, and a tuck-in dimensional package for teaching aids.

The multi-component TouchMath FlipCards contained a master corrugate vessel with UV coat with three separate categorized flash card packages housed within. Product was available for individual purchase or was included as the manipulative in the TouchMath Common Core State Standards curriculum packaging.

The primary sales piece used to inform and educate administrators and curriculum specialists about the new TouchMath Common Core State Standards curriculum, this package mirrored the actual product in both appearance and content organization. It also featured an embedded speaker and recording that guided the recipient through the new program and highlighted the many benefits of the system.
The TouchMath RtI program is the original curriculum program developed almost 40 years prior. The rebranding of the packaging of this product line was the last in the overall rebranding effort as existing inventory had to be exhausted before a reorder/redesign was possible.
The TouchMath Math Fans packaging consisted of a corrugate lift-top package with blister-form tray to secure contents.
The TouchMath TouchNumerals featured die-cut foam numerals polybagged set inside a corrugate lift-top box. The packaging also included a CD with student worksheets and teaching strategies. The entire package was shrinkwrapped for added security and stability during shipping from China.
Designed to house a series of 8 11"X17" posters plus two CDs the Skip Counting poster vessel featurde a heavy cover weight stock for the vessel with a secure flap enclosure on the rear of the packaging, further secured by shrink wrap.

TouchMath carried a line of small, letter-sized posters and manipulatives. To economize reproduction, all employed a standard die-cut with tuck-in flap secured by a small adhesive wafer and shrinkwrap.
The TouchMath Money Kit featured a 3-ring binder to contain 500-pages of student worksheets, plus a DVD of digital master files and teaching strategies.
Designed for a startup company on a very limited budget, the Fresh Hands packaging consisted of a simple adhesive label printed on a laser copier and affixed by hand.
The shipping case for Colorado Premium Vodka (1.75L). Other sizes for 750mL and 1L was developed using a similar design.
