Make Your Mark D&AD

This is a project that was submitted to design awards program, D&AD as part of my HND Graphic Design studies.

The idea was to tell a story of who you are or your journey so far in a way which reflects your strengths and skills. It was imperative that the story be sincere and really reflect who you are, not just who you want people to see you as.

I hope I have shown that with these images.
I AM THE INTROVERT
I play hide and seek with myself.  For me an hour of socialising can be more tiring than an hour of squash. I have at times threatened to maime people who talk through movies. I can suddenly find myself mulling over things that have happened in the past. I can be highly self-critical but I get most energised when working on a project.

I wear
my heart on
my sleeve.
I AM THE EXTROVERT
I am a compulsive singer.
I am not shy about human contact.
I’m more of a hugger than a hand-shaker.
I have always been active and get a lot of energy from sports and competition.

I am quick to open up to people and my friends inspire me and support me in my endeavours.
Somewhere there are videos of me in spandex doing the Chatanooga Choo-Choo.

I AM THE OBSESSIVE
My obsessions consume me until there’s no room for anything else, including eating or sleeping. At times I wonder if this is more a personality disorder than a behavioural trait and then find myself obsessing over even that. My family and friends view it as a form of masochism.

I have often been told that even if I was a binman I’d take my work home with me.
I AM THE PERFECTIONIST
I do not compete with others.
I compete with myself.

I am never totally happy with my work and while it helps me to stay motivated and achieve more than I have before, when combined with my obsessivenesss, I can end up shirking other responsibilities. Something which my girlfriend can attest to.

I am writing this at 4am.
I AM THE PROBLEM SOLVER
When I was 3 years old my father gave me a 3D wooden puzzle for Christmas. I spent hours tirelessly trying to solve it and have had a love of puzzles ever since. I love the feeling of achievement and the beauty of an elegant solution
but more than that, I love the challenge.

I still get 3D puzzles every Christmas.
I AM THE CHILD
Say hello to my little friend!

He was given to me when I was 1 year old. He represents a very playful part of me that is still fascinated with new things and is thirsty for information. He was also once a literal part of me when, at 4 years old, I accidentally bit his nose off and swallowed it.
He has been to Cinco de Mayo in El Paso, climbed the Eiffel Tower and snowboarded in New Zealand.
He still sleeps in my bed.
