Margaret Murray was an egyptologist, archaeologist, anthropologist, folklorist as well as the first female professor of archeology in the United Kingdom, active at the turn of the XIX and XX centuries.

Despite the multiple successes achieved in her work Murray's reputation declined after her death, this was caused by the rejection of her witch-cult theory and the general erasure of female archaeologists from the discipline's male-dominated history.
